Blogiversary Update - Small Talk

Sherry has asked that all of the guests to her blogiversary party answer the following questions as "small talk" to get to know each other at the beginning of the party.

Questions:
What type of job do you have? My number #1 job is being a homeschooling mom to Alexander, Sophia and our border collie Izzy, although I don't know that I would call it a job - I love it. I am fortunate to have a husband that supports me being home and enjoys all the benefits of a stay at home wife (home cooked meals, clean house, errands run, and best of all, a knowledge of his children that he wouldn't have if we both worked all day.)

I also teach ESL (English as a Second Language) two evenings a week to adult learners from various parts of the world. If you could ever have a job that makes you feel good each and every time you go to work, it is my job. My students are always very appreciative of everything I do.

Where do you live? I am originally from Wichita, Kansas but moved to Chicago suburbs 10 years ago.

Where do you do your crafts/art work? I am not really a crafter but when I do it is in the dining room. To the west I can look out our big window in the living room that faces the front yard and to the east I can see out the backyard where squirrels and birds are constantly moving about in our trees.

What is your favorite daytime beverage? I love Zen (Tazo's green tea) and drink several cups throughout the day. Actually, I made a cup to drink while doing this post. I also drink sparkling mineral water, regular tap water from our reverse osmosis and on occasion I will drink a glass of wine during the day or chocolate almond milk.

What is your favorite dessert? My newest dessert is coconut milk ice cream by So Delicious. It is totally dairy/soy free and super delicious. Also, I can gobble down a few(or more) homemade gluten free chocolate cupcakes. Trader Joe's carried a gluten free black forest cake that was another one of my favorites but I just found out last week they discontinued it. I am still in sorrow over that.

Do you watch soap opera's and if you do what's your favorite? I don't watch soap operas. Actually, I rarely watch TV during day. As a family we watch Eureka on the Sci-Fi channel, Family Guy, Chuck, Dick Van Dyke and Bewitched. If we are up late enough, I also enjoy Late Night with Conan O'Brien.

What's the last movie you saw in a movie theatre? American Girl with my daughter Sophia and my sister in law Hilary. This has sparked Sophia and I into a unit on the Depression.

  1. Thanks for the "small talk" Cathy! I didn't realize you could get dairy free ice cream. I hope the gluten free stuff keeps on the market for you. Mallory is really interested in the time period of Martin Luther King. She is always asking questions about equality. The Depression would be interesting to her to I bet!!

    Have a great evening!

  2. Cathy- I am joining in on Sherry's party, too! She really is a sweetie pie and it sounds like she was a pretty fantastic big sister, too.:-)
I home school my girls, too! I will be 40 in January, so it sounds like we have quite a bit in common! I think we may start a unit on "Kit" with the Portraits of American Girlhood Curriculum. We loved the Kit books and the movie. I will be posting my questions later tonight, so feel free to stop by! Lori

  3. Great to meet you. I scrolled down to see your links on gluten-free diets. I have been considering looking up many meals and snacks. So finding these web-sites seems like a sign for me. (yikes, I have been avoiding it so far). And I need to get away from my flavored coffee and do the green tea. Thanks for the info. Blessings. Lisa

  4. Hi Cathy, I enjoyed getting to "know" you a little bit better through your answers! I popped over to your other blog too and read a bit about your new homeschooling decision. I applaude you for doing what you feel is best for your kids! It takes a lot of dedication, and makes me feel tired thinking about it! Talk to you soon!

  5. Hi Cathy,
It is nice to get to know you, too. I think homeschooling is one of the most challenging "jobs" out there. How great that you are able to do it with your kids. Teaching ESL sounds like a very rewarding job. My mom is an ESL bilingual aid at an elementary school, and she is constantly telling me stories about how appreciative her students are, but especially their parents.
That coconut ice-cream sounds delicious! I'll have to look for it now :) kindly, Jessica

  7. Hi Cathy! It's so nice to meet you and to find out a little more about Sherry, to. My sister has homeschooled one of her older daughters, and now she's homeschooling her kindergartener this year. I realize it's such a HUGE job. I have great respect for women who have the patience to do it because I don't think I could. (I'm not smart enough) My girls go to a Montessori school which is wonderful for us.

  8. Nice to meet you Cathy! I love to shop at Trader Joe's when I'm in my hometown as they carry things you can find in most run of the mill stores.
